Where I'm From

There are some assignments that you do that you hate; then there are some that just stick with you. Well this is the ladder. It's a poem that I had to write entitled "Where I'm From".

I am from Ultimate Warrior wrestling buddy,
From Andy's 'Perfect Flex'.
Iam from the fatigue felt during summer baseball in the street.
(Hot and sweat glistening
but stoppoing wasn't an option.)
I am from the street sign;
the light post
that represented job accomplished
instead of directoin and light.

I am from circle grilled cheese and handshakes
from Grandmother and Grandfather.
I am from 'crazy' aunts
and coffee and donut 'wisdom'.
from "Yeah...?"
to "You're driving me crazy."
I'm from standing along the fence
to post game talks,
and an up lifting voice.
I'm from Phil and Ann's branch,
french fries and ice cream
From the punches in the face
in a parking lot and a snowy day
the strenght my sister had not to fold.
On a book shelf sits a binder
pictures collecting dust.
I remember first to last
tee ball to 8th grade volleyball
I am from those moments-
raised in confusion-
but will be the last branch to break from that tree.

"Why Not..?"

This past Sunday, just like every Sunday during football season, the staff of Bowling Green High got together to prepare for Trinity. As most people know, Trinity is one of the top teams in the state of Kentucky and if you want to make a case for being the best in the state you have to beat one of the Big 2 (it used to be the Big 3; St.X, Trinity, and Male but Male is starting to become a very average football team). Towards the end of our offensive staff meeting our quarterbacks coach looks at me and says, "Lets kick their ass!" My reply, "Why not?" Really, was that all I had to say about a team that I have hated since 3rd grade? But thinking about it now that was all I needed to say. When a challenge is placed in front of you why say much else? No one likes a person who talks about what their going to do and not back it up. Talk is cheap!! It's time to step up to the plate and see what our team is truly made of. We are either going to bust our ass and win or bust our ass and lose, but either way we're going to give it our all. It would have been easy for this years Bowling Green football team to keep teams like Greenwood on our schedule and tell our kids that we're the best because we're undefeated, but if you want to be the best you must be willing to play and more importantly BEAT the best.
"Why not...?" something so simple has turned out to be a statement that will hang around me, not because it relates to football but because it relates to life. I'll be the first to tell you that I have passed up some opportunities in my life because I'm too rational. Don't get me wrong; I'll never back down from a challenge but there have been times that I have over thought situations and I would give myself an out so I wouldn't get embarrassed. Something happened this past weekend that at this point in time I can't fully explain, but I'm not going to let it pass me by like the first time. The reason is quite simple, "why not...?" Don't be afraid to compete with the best and for the best; challenge yourself to be the best you can be. Don't worry about what others have done, because all anyone can ask of you is to improve each and everyday. The next time you're faced with a challenge respond, "why not?" because it might just be the best thing (or person) to happen to you.

Getting Started

When I had a class assignment that was about Google tools I knew that the blog is what I had to do. If you would have asked me in high school I would have told you that there is no way I would have a blog because writing was a chore instead of a passion. I've started to realize that writing is something that gets me excited, excited because I have the power to express my beliefs, opinions, dislikes, and everything in between. Some post will make you laugh, shake your head, think, or just say that was plain terrible. But either way, I'll have a good time "blogging".
